There is only one legal national lottery in Ireland, the National Lottery and it does NOT use email to notify winners. Below is a typical scam email, this one received in January 2007. We've highlighted some of the obvious clues that it is a fraud.

  1. The National Lottery Community Fund England and UK-wide: 028 9568 0143 Email England and UK-wide Northern Ireland: 028 4378 0003 Email Northern Ireland.
  2. Northern Ireland Director. Kate Beggs was appointed as The National Lottery Community Fund's director for Northern Ireland in January 2019. Kate said: “I’m proud to work for The National Lottery Community Fund and have the opportunity to meet a wide range of stakeholders, volunteers and the beneficiaries involved in the projects we fund.

Irish National Lottery Scam Emails - The Irish National Lottery, GLORIA TESLA

How to Recognize Them and What To Do If You Receive One
'The Irish National Lottery
MRS. GLORIA TESLA, Sir. kolyn parkins

This one is a scam that attempts to scam you by claiming that there is a free online version of the Irish Lottery that selects winners, randomly, just because they have an email address. Obviously, this is just another scam. If you really believe that there is ANY organization, anywhere in the world, that is going to give away millions of dollars weekly to people who are selected at random from email addresses, then we hope that you have no plans to have children. That magnitude of stupidity is probably genetic.

Irish National Lottery Email

We'vehighlighted some of the obvious clues that it is a fraud. Notice the the use of free yahoo email accounts (not likely for a professional lottery!), gibberish phrases, many typos and misspellings, etc. Note that they have even included the real logo, from the Irish Lottery website.

I think I may have received a scam message, what should I do?

If you are unsure of the validity of a message or email that you have received, you should not respond to it.

It's worth noting that it is not possible to win a lottery prize unless you have purchased a ticket. This can either be done in-store at a local lottery retailer or online through a licensed and regulated website.

No official lottery operator would ever contact you to demand money upfront, also known as 'release fees' or any other kind of wording that involves you sending them money. If you receive such a message - it is a scam.

If you've received a scam email, the best thing to do is to block the sender to prevent them from sending any further emails to you.

You should not, under any circumstances, send any personal or financial information to someone that you are suspicious of. If you have an online lottery account, you may be contacted by the operator in the event of a big win, however they will not request any financial details from you over the phone.

If you have sent details to a potential scammer, you should contact your local fraud authorities for assistance. If you've sent financial information, you should contact your bank immediately to inform them.

For more information, see the Lottery Scams page.

It's much faster and more convenient to reach us online - we'll always aim to respond to you as soon as possible.
